The Rock I Stand On is a twelve-song gospel CD by Larry Sparks, released by Rebel in 1994 (REB-CD 1710) and recorded in 1993 at River Tracks Recording Studio in Louisa, Kentucky. Sparks plays guitar and is the only vocalist credited; Carl Breggren plays mandolin, Barry Crabtree banjo and Jeff Brown bass.
Besides the title song, the program includes “Tell ’Em About Jesus,” “Green Pastures in the Sky,” “An Empty Mansion,” “I’m on My Way to Canaan’s Land,” “Thank You Lord,” “Where Shall I Be,” “Mama’s Song,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Jesus Is the Rock.” Sparks began his bluegrass career with the Stanley Brothers in 1964, stayed on with Ralph Stanley’s Clinch Mountain Boys after Carter Stanley’s death in December 1966, and formed the Lonesome Ramblers in late 1969. He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2015.
