The Steve Martin Brothers (Warner Bros. BSK 3477) was released in 1981, and it was the last stand-up comedy album Steve Martin released. Side one is stand-up, recorded at the Riviera in Las Vegas and at The Comedy Store in Hollywood. Side two is banjo music, recorded at Woodland Studios in Nashville, Aspen Studios in Aspen, Colorado, and Caribou Ranch in Nederland, Colorado. The album was produced by William E. McEuen. The cover carries two photographs of Martin, credited as “Steve the Banjo Player” and “Steve the Vegas Guy.”
Side two has ten tracks, among them “Sally Goodin’” and “John Henry,” both listed as instrumentals, “Hoedown at Alice’s,” “Freddie’s Lilt, Parts I and II,” and “Waterbound.” The credits list Martin and John McEuen on banjo, McEuen also on guitar and mandolin, Vassar Clements on fiddle, Roy Huskey Jr. on bass, Merel Bregante on percussion, Bryan Savage on flute, Maury Manseau and William E. McEuen on guitar, and the Aspen Studio Strings. Martin decided to quit stand-up after the album came out.
