The Steve Martin Brothers, released on Warner Bros. Records (BSK 3477) in 1981, is comedian and actor Steve Martin's final comedy album, structured as a double-sided LP: Side A presents live stand-up from Las Vegas and Hollywood; Side B delivers instrumental bluegrass. Martin—a serious 5-string banjo student from adolescence—plays throughout the bluegrass side alongside John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on guitar and mandolin, Vassar Clements on fiddle, and Roy Huskey Jr. on upright bass; produced by William E. McEuen. The album's title is a joke about Martin's two artistic personalities; the bluegrass side stands on its own as legitimate traditional picking alongside two of the era's most respected instrumentalists, not as parody.
