The Swift House was released in early 2017 by the Baltimore father-and-son duo Ken and Brad Kolodner. Ken Kolodner, of the group Helicon, plays fiddle and hammered dulcimer; Brad Kolodner plays clawhammer banjo. They began playing together in 2009. It was their third album together, recorded at their own home, and the first they released as a quartet, with Rachel Eddy on fiddle, guitar and vocals and Alex Lacquement on bass.
The program combines covers with originals. The track list includes “Turkey in the Pea Patch,” “Steel Rail Blues,” “Deep Ellum Blues,” “Chilly Winds” and a pairing of “Sap’s Rising” and “The Dull Chisel.” Ken Kolodner arranged the music, Chris Murphy engineered and mixed it, and Bill Wolf mastered it.
