They’re Playing My Song (Rebel REB-CD 1849) was released on 16 October 2012 and is the third album Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers made for Rebel. It was recorded at Oscar Fish Studio in Brookville, Ohio, by the band as then constituted: Mullins on banjo, Adam McIntosh on guitar, Mike Terry on mandolin, Evan McGregor on fiddle and Tim Kidd on bass. Mullins formed the Radio Ramblers in 2006 in southwest Ohio, and the band was named the IBMA’s Emerging Artist of the Year in 2012.
Of the fourteen tracks, two are instrumentals, “Steel Guitar Rag” and “Cruisin’ Timber.” The lead singing is shared among McIntosh, Terry and Mullins, and “Moses, Set My People Free” has four voices. The program includes Dave Evans’s “When the Snow Falls on My Foggy Mountain Home,” Bill Anderson’s “Some Kind of War,” Becky Buller’s “Moses Set My People Free” and a four-song Osborne Brothers medley. The last track is a live recording of “Katy Daley,” which Mullins’s father, the broadcaster and fiddler Paul “Moon” Mullins, arranged and popularized.
