"Thirteen," released in 1986 on Warner Bros. Records, is Emmylou Harris's thirteenth studio album — the title a deliberate reference to the count. Produced by Harris and her then-husband Paul Kennerley, the album features Barry Tashian (guitar, vocals) alongside harmony contributions from Carl Jackson, Rodney Crowell, and Vince Gill, with Frank Reckard on lead guitar and Steve Fishell on pedal steel. Rolling Stone called it a "roots record" comparable to her landmark 1980 acoustic album "Roses in the Snow." Both singles missed the country top 40, underscoring the growing gap between Harris's aesthetic commitments and mainstream Nashville tastes — a tension that would ultimately lead her to dissolve the Hot Band and form the all-acoustic Nash Ramblers five years later.
