Train a Comin' was Steve Earle's first record after a period out of the music business, released on Winter Harvest in 1995. It is entirely acoustic, which at the time was a deliberate break from the rock records that preceded it.
Earle assembled a band from the acoustic world rather than his own: Norman Blake on guitar, dobro, fiddle and mandolin, Peter Rowan on mandolin and mandola, and Roy Huskey Jr. on bass, with Emmylou Harris singing harmony. Much of the material was old - songs he had written years earlier and never cut himself, among them "Hometown Blues," which the Seldom Scene would take up a decade later.
The record did a great deal to reintroduce Earle to an audience that had lost track of him, and it opened the door to his later bluegrass collaborations, including his album with the Del McCoury Band.
