Unleashed (Sugar Hill SHCD 3843) was released in October 1995 and won the Nashville Bluegrass Band the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album. Jerry Douglas produced it, and it was recorded at Sound Emporium in Nashville. The band is Pat Enright on guitar, Alan O’Bryant on banjo, Roland White on mandolin, Stuart Duncan on fiddle and Gene Libbea on bass.
Enright and O’Bryant sing most of the lead parts. Enright leads “Tear My Stillhouse Down” and “One More Dollar,” both Gillian Welch songs (the second written with David Rawlings). O’Bryant leads the traditional “Boll Weevil.” White leads “Little White Washed Chimney,” credited to Bill Clifton, and “Doorstep of Trouble.” “Dog Remembers Bacon” is an instrumental by O’Bryant and Duncan, and the closing “Last Month of the Year,” credited to the Fairfield Four, has O’Bryant singing lead over harmony from the other four members.
