"What We Leave Behind," released in 2001 on Pinecastle Records (PRC-1110), is a bluegrass gospel album by David Parmley — vocalist and guitarist, son of banjo legend Don Parmley and co-founder of the Bluegrass Cardinals. Parmley had subsequently led David Parmley, Scott Vestal & Continental Divide, winners of the IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year award in 1995. Here he assembles a guest-heavy cast including Del McCoury and Ronnie McCoury alongside Adam Steffey, Missy Raines, and Aubrey Haynie. The pairing of Parmley's expressive lead vocals with the McCoury family gives the album particular weight, and the record sits comfortably in the tradition of harmony-rich bluegrass gospel that has produced some of the genre's most enduring recordings.
