Windy City, released February 17, 2017 on Capitol Nashville (B 002539202), is Alison Krauss's first solo album in seventeen years and her most country-leaning record to date. Produced by Buddy Cannon, it sets Krauss against full Nashville string sections and steel-guitar arrangements on a program of mid-century country covers — Brenda Lee's "Losing You," Roger Miller's "River in the Rain," Bill Monroe's "I Never Cared for You," Glen Campbell's "Gentle on My Mind." Suzanne Cox and Sidney Cox contribute vocal harmonies; Union Station does not appear. The session followed years of touring behind 2007's Raising Sand collaboration with Robert Plant and bookended Krauss's longest stretch away from her own headlining records. Windy City debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's bluegrass chart and No. 9 on the country albums chart.
