Fiddlin’ Powers & Family were a string band from Scott County, in southwest Virginia, led by fiddler James Cowan Powers and made up of his children — Charles on banjo, Carrie on guitar, Orpha on mandolin and Ada on ukulele. They were among the first country acts to record commercially.

- Cut a trial recording for Victor in New York on 8 August 1924, then recorded in earnest on 18 and 19 August; three of the first day’s six sides were issued, including “Old Joe Clark” (Victor 19434).
- Recorded afterwards for Edison in 1925 and OKeh in 1927.
- An earlier member, Matilda Lambert, played banjo with the family until her death in 1916.
