Maddie Denton

Recording Artist · Active 2016–present · Also a musician

Maddie Denton is a Tennessee fiddler who came out of the contest circuit as a Grand Master champion and was named the IBMA’s Fiddle Player of the Year in 2025. She plays with the clean intonation that contest fiddling demands and the rhythmic looseness it usually beats out of people — a rare combination.

  • She is from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and comes from a fiddling family, a third generation on the instrument.
  • She won the Grand Master Fiddler Championship, the contest held in Nashville that is the most competitive in the country for the style.
  • She has played fiddle in East Nash Grass for seven years, the band that grew out of a weekly Nashville residency and took the IBMA’s New Artist award in 2024.
  • She spent four years in the Dan Tyminski Band alongside that work.
  • The IBMA named her Fiddle Player of the Year in 2025.
  • She sings and writes as well as playing, and her own recordings put the fiddle in a singer’s setting rather than an instrumental showcase.
  • In this catalog she appears on her own “In Tall Buildings,” on East Nash Grass’s “Love Slippin’ Away,” and on Dan Tyminski’s “Old Home Place” and “Say Won’t You Be Mine.”
