Playin' in This Town (self-released, 2021) is the debut solo album from Murfreesboro, Tennessee fiddler Maddie Denton, a 2016 Grand Master Fiddle Champion and the first Tennessee-born winner of that title. Recorded during the COVID-19 shutdown, the album blends traditional fiddle tunes, originals, and songs by friends, featuring contributions from guitarist Cory Walker, multi-instrumentalist Gaven Largent, James Kee, Harry Clark, and session bassist Viktor Krauss — brother of Alison Krauss and longtime Lyle Lovett sideman. Sam Bush praised Denton's combination of "bluegrass drive and the finesse of the Texas contest style." Shortly after the album's release Denton joined East Nash Grass and was named IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year, confirming the arrival of a formidable new voice in acoustic music.
