“Cascadia” is an original tune by the mandolinist John Reischman, named for the Cascade Range of the Pacific Northwest. It appears on his 2021 album “New Time & Old Acoustic.”
Reischman conceived the piece as a fiddle tune in A minor, and on the album it is arranged in the contemporary, progressive acoustic style for which he is known — an open-sounding introduction, a syncopated vamp, and room for the players to stretch out. Reischman has long written tunes that find their way into the wider jam and festival repertoire.
This recording features Reischman on mandolin with a small acoustic ensemble, the players trading solos through the tune on “New Time & Old Acoustic.”
