He was playing bluegrass by the age of 13 and turned professional after finishing high school, working with the Shoal Creek Band and with Randy Kohrs & the Lites before starting Volume Five. He played bass on Drifter, the band’s sixth album, released by Mountain Fever Records in June 2016, which included Damon Black’s “Tall Pines” and the instrumental “Lucky Seven” by the band’s guitarist Colby Laney.

After about ten years with Volume Five he left the road to spend more time with his family, and then played with the Mountain Bridge band. In July 2019 Backline asked him to fill in at the Anderson Bluegrass Festival and then invited him to join. He became the band’s bassist in January 2020, replacing founding member Jason Belue, in a lineup with Katelyn Ingardia on guitar and lead vocals, Travis Tucker on reso-guitar, Zach Carter on banjo, Milom Williams on mandolin and Clint White on fiddle.
