He played bass guitar on Haggard’s sessions from 21 June 1974 to April 1976. Those include the 16 September 1974 session at Columbia Recording Studio in Nashville that produced “Kentucky Gambler,” with Dolly Parton singing harmony. He followed Johnny Meeks on bass in the band.

After leaving the Strangers he played with Johnny Cash. He shared the electric bass with Mike Leech on the October 1984 sessions in Nashville, produced by Chips Moman, that made “Highwayman” with Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson.
