He grew up in southwest Ohio, where his father, a guitarist, gave him his first instrument and hired him for gigs while he was a teenager. When Danny Booth left Dirty Kitchen in November 2015, Solivan asked Middleton to fill in until the band chose a permanent bassist, and he stayed on. With Solivan, Mike Munford and Chris Luquette he played electric bass on If You Can’t Stand the Heat (Compass, 2019), which was nominated for the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album, and on Solivan’s 2020 single “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and string bass on Hold On (Compass, 2022). By 2026 he had left the band, but he returned to sing the tenor part on its single “Looking Past You.”
