25 is a live album by Leftover Salmon on the band’s own LoS Records, released in late 2015 for the band’s twenty-fifth anniversary. It collects twenty-five previously unreleased recordings from 2013 and 2014 shows, among them the Boulder Theater, The Hamilton in Washington, D.C., Lincoln, Nebraska, Terrapin Crossroads and the Vic in Chicago. Bassist Greg Garrison chose the tracks, and sound engineer Mario Casilio helped produce and mixed them. Keyboardist Bill Payne, who was still billed as a special guest at the time, plays on all but one.
Leftover Salmon formed in Colorado in 1989, when members of the Salmon Heads, including Vince Herman, joined members of the Left Hand String Band, including Drew Emmitt, for a New Year’s Eve show in Crested Butte. The band later gained a spot on the H.O.R.D.E. festival tour. The album opens with “Midnight Blue” and ends with “Big Railroad Blues,” and the covers range from Dylan to John Hartford to the Violent Femmes, among them Little Feat’s “Easy to Slip,” which Payne introduced into the band’s repertoire. It was packaged with Silver Salmon India Pale Lager from Breckenridge Brewery, which was also marking its twenty-fifth year.
