40 Days is the Wailin’ Jennys’ 2004 full-length debut, recorded at Private Ear in their hometown of Winnipeg with producer David Travers-Smith and released in the United States on Red House. The founding trio — Ruth Moody, Nicky Mehta, and Cara Luft — trade leads and stack three-part harmony across thirteen tracks mixing originals (“One Voice,” “Beautiful Dawn,” “Arlington”) with covers and traditional material, backed by guests including guitarist Kevin Breit. It won the Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year by a group, and it is the only Jennys full-length with Luft, who left the band the following year. “One Voice” and “Beautiful Dawn” became the group’s signatures.
