A Beautiful Bouquet, released on Arhoolie Records (Arhoolie 5030) in 1983, presents California country pioneer Rose Maddox alongside the Vern Williams Band in an all-gospel program of fourteen traditional tracks. Vern Williams plays mandolin and sings; Delbert Williams, guitar and vocals; Ed Neff, fiddle and mandolin; Keith Little, banjo, guitar, and vocals; and Kevin Thompson, upright bass—though Thompson is absent from the catalog personnel field. Recorded in memory of Rose's son Donnie, who died in 1982, and produced by Arhoolie founder Chris Strachwitz, the session brought Maddox's pioneering California country voice and the Williams band's deep traditional bluegrass rooting together in a record of quiet, grief-shaped spiritual beauty.
