A Collection of Instrumentals is an eleven-track album of instrumentals by Section House, released by Mountain Fever Records on 25 March 2016 (MFR 160325). The quintet is Jake Stargel on guitar, Aaron Ramsey on mandolin, Cory Walker on banjo, Bryan McDowell on fiddle and Jeff Partin on bass. When the album came out, Ramsey and Partin were members of Mountain Heart and McDowell was working with the Claire Lynch Band. Stargel had played with Mountain Heart and Sierra Hull, and Walker had also worked with Hull and with Chris Henry & the Hardcore Grass.

Five of the tracks are older tunes: “Shakin’ Down the Acorns,” “Dance All Night with a Bottle in Your Hand,” “Snowflake Reel,” “Paddy on the Turnpike” and “Foggy Mountain Breakdown,” which the band recasts in G minor. Most of the rest were written by members of the band. Ramsey wrote three: the waltz “Veil of Questions,” “A Lost Partner’s Promenade” and “King & Water.” Stargel contributed “Pouches,” and Walker’s “Rat King” is a banjo tune in a minor key. Reviewing the album for Bluegrass Today, John Lawless compared it with the all-instrumental Bluegrass ’95 series that Pinecastle Records issued each year from 1995 to 2001.
