Smithsonian Folkways’ 2007 edition of American Favorite Ballads, Vol. 5, the last of the five volumes Pete Seeger recorded for Moses Asch. It runs to twenty-nine tracks — nearly double the 1962 Folkways original — drawing in banjo pieces and songs that had not appeared on the earlier LP, among them “Old Joe Clark.” Seeger accompanies himself on five-string banjo and guitar throughout, in the plain unaccompanied-singer manner that made the series one of the most widely used sources of American traditional song in the folk revival.
