Another Saturday Night

The Bluegrass Band

Album · 1982 · Voyager VRLP 330 S

Another Saturday Night is a bluegrass ensemble album released on Voyager VRLP-330S around the mid-1970s, featuring Alan O'Bryant on banjo and vocals, Butch Robins on banjo, Blaine Sprouse on fiddle, Ed Dye on guitar, and David Sebring on bass. The Voyager label was a small independent imprint that documented regional bluegrass acts during the genre's grassroots revival period. Robins, a longtime Bill Monroe sideman, and Sprouse, whose fiddle work would be recognized by multiple generations of pickers, bring considerable authority to the ensemble. The album reflects the collaborative, somewhat informal recording culture of 1970s independent bluegrass, when a rotating cast of talented players could gather for a session and produce work of genuine musical merit without a major-label infrastructure.
