Behind the Barn is a 1995 album released by the Kruger Brothers on Blue Martin Records (BLM 330116), recorded when Jens and Uwe Kruger were still performing as a duo before Joel Landsberg joined to complete the trio. The Swiss siblings had been playing together since childhood—Jens developing an idiosyncratic banjo approach informed by classical training, Uwe honing a fingerpicking guitar style rooted in folk and country traditions. Behind the Barn documents the brothers' pre-trio configuration and stands as an early statement of the distinctive voice that would carry them from Europe to the heart of American acoustic music, where they would become widely regarded as one of the genre's most intellectually ambitious acts.
