Blowin' in the Wind, the Country Gentlemen's mid-1960s Rebel release built around their bluegrass rearrangement of Bob Dylan's title song, illustrates the band's distinctive approach to material from outside the bluegrass tradition — taking folk-revival staples and finding what bluegrass instrumentation could do with them rather than playing them straight. The classic Waller-Duffey-Adcock-Gray lineup is in evidence throughout, with the high-trio harmony and Eddie Adcock's adventurous banjo carrying selections that ranged from contemporary folk material to traditional bluegrass and gospel. It belongs to the same era as Bringing Mary Home, when the band's Rebel catalog was establishing the template for what progressive bluegrass would become.
