Born of the Spirit is a 1958 extended-play recording by The Lewis Family on Starday Records (SEP 104). The Georgia family group—led by patriarch "Pop" Roy Lewis (bass guitar) alongside sons Wallace Lewis (guitar) and Talmadge Lewis (mandolin, fiddle), with daughters Miggie, Polly, and Janis Lewis on vocals—had begun recording for Starday in the mid-1950s, establishing themselves as a leading act in Southern gospel-inflected bluegrass. The Lewis Family's jubilee harmonies and exuberant stage presence made them fixtures on the gospel convention circuit across the South, and this early EP captures the joyful, full-family sound that sustained their career for more than five decades on the road and in the studio.
