Class of '96, released by Pinecastle Records on September 15, 1996, is one of the Osborne Brothers' late-1990s anthology-style releases — twelve songs across thirty-four minutes from a band that had been at it for over four decades by then. The configuration framed Bobby's mandolin and lead and Sonny's banjo with the working Pinecastle lineup, returning to the band's familiar mix of bluegrass standards and country-leaning material. By 1996 the brothers' commercial peak with Rocky Top was nearly thirty years behind them, but the album catches them in the disciplined working stretch that defined the late-career Osborne Brothers.
