Color of the Blues was released in October 2003 on the Dutch label Strictly Country (SCR 55). It presents sixteen tracks recorded on 14 May 1994, nine years earlier, by Bob Paisley and the Southern Grass: Bob Paisley and his son Dan on guitars, Bobby Lundy on banjo, Jon Glik on fiddle and Hendrick Ahrend on bass, with Bob, Dan and Lundy singing.
Bob Paisley sings lead on “Walking the Dog,” “Heavenly Light Is Shining,” “Sad Prisoner’s Song,” “Low and Lonely” and the title song, which George Jones and Lawton Williams wrote and on which Dan sings tenor. Dan Paisley takes the lead on “I’ll Take the Blame,” “Whose Shoulder Will You Cry On,” “Kentucky Waltz,” “Rose of Old Kentucky” and, with Bob and Bobby Lundy joining on the choruses, “When You’re Lonely” and “Sitting on Top of the World.” Five instrumentals are included: “Paddy on the Turnpike,” “John Hardy,” “Ragtime Annie,” “Sally Ann” and Bill Monroe’s “Shenandoah Breakdown.”
Bobby Lundy is a son of Ted Lundy, with whom Bob Paisley played for several years in Ted Lundy and the Southern Mountain Boys. After Lundy died in 1980 the group appeared as Bob Paisley and the Southern Grass. Paisley died in 2004, and the band continued under Dan Paisley’s name.
