Danny Paisley
Danny Paisley is a Pennsylvania-born lead singer and guitarist who took over Southern Grass after his father Bob Paisley's 2004 death — a four-time IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year whose unadorned, intense traditional bluegrass keeps the family band alive into a third generation.
- Born 1959 in Landenberg, Pennsylvania; son of bluegrass bandleader Bob Paisley.
- Started performing as a teenager with the Southern Mountain Boys, the band his father co-founded with Ted Lundy.
- Took over leadership of Southern Grass after his father Bob Paisley died in 2004.
- Won IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year four times — joining only three other artists with that count in bluegrass history (most recent in 2024).
- Won IBMA Song of the Year in 2009 for "Don't Throw Mama's Flowers Away" (Chris Stuart / Ivan Rosenberg).
- Performs unadorned, intense traditional bluegrass; cites George Jones and Vern Gosdin as major vocal influences.
- Album "Bluegrass Troubadour" was nominated for IBMA Album of the Year.
- Carries on the family tradition with son Ryan Paisley on mandolin and the Lundy family (T.J. and Bobby Lundy) in the band.
