“Don’t Pass Me By” was the first song written by Ringo Starr of the Beatles. He had it as early as the band’s first years together, and the Beatles finally recorded it for their 1968 double album, “The Beatles,” known as the White Album.
The song is a plain plea from an anxious lover. Waiting and worrying, the singer asks the one he loves not to pass him by and not to make him cry — a simple, almost childlike statement of need.
The song’s straightforward country lilt made it an easy fit for bluegrass. The version heard here is by Lou Reid, Terry Baucom and Carolina.
