Clay Jones is a North Carolina-born flatpicking guitarist whose 1993 IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year honor, three-year tenure with Lou Reid & Carolina, run with Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, and long Mountain Heart association have made him one of the busiest contemporary bluegrass guitarists.
- Bluegrass flatpick guitarist from Mocksville, North Carolina (near Winston-Salem).
- First performed publicly with The Carolina Bluegrass Band at the Snuffy Jenkins Festival.
- Won IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year in 1993.
- Played guitar in Lou Reid, Terry Baucom and Carolina from 1992 to 1994.
- Played on the "Bluegrass '95" album, which won IBMA Instrumental Album of the Year in 1996.
- Member of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder from 1996 to 1998.
- Lived and worked as a musician in Japan starting around 1991, playing jazz and bluegrass.
- Joined Mountain Heart as guitarist in 2003; left in 2007 and rejoined December 2009; released solo album "Mountain Tradition" (Rural Rhythm, 2005) and the EP "Heritage Not Hate" with Pure Drive (2015).
