Country Bluegrass is an MCA compilation released as MCAC-20976, drawing from the Decca and MCA catalogues to present a survey of bluegrass recordings from the labels' extensive country archives. MCA's acquisition of Decca gave the corporation custody of the most important bluegrass recordings of the classic era — Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, the Osborne Brothers, and others — and the "Country Bluegrass" compilation format allowed the label to repackage this material for audiences encountering the tradition through the folk revival or the broader country mainstream. The collection represents the Decca/MCA approach to the bluegrass catalogue: accessible, historically grounded, and designed to introduce the tradition to listeners who might not seek out individual artists but respond to the genre's cumulative power as an anthology.
