Everybody’s Reaching Out for Someone was released by Rounder in 1993 (CD 0297) and was the Cox Family’s first album for the label. The family, from Cotton Valley, Louisiana, had been performing together since 1972. Alison Krauss, who met them at a festival in Texas, gave one of their home recordings to Rounder and then produced the album; she was 21.

Suzanne, Evelyn, Sidney and Willard Cox share the lead and harmony vocals across the twelve tracks. The instruments come from Ron Block (guitar and banjo), Adam Steffey (mandolin), Barry Bales (bass), Rob Ickes (Dobro), Krauss and Andrea Zonn (fiddle), and steel guitarists Weldon Myrick, Kayton Roberts and Tommy White on some tracks. Krauss sings harmony on “I’ve Got That Old Feeling” and takes the lead on “When God Dips His Pen of Love in My Heart.”

Krauss and the family followed it in 1994 with I Know Who Holds Tomorrow, which won the Grammy for Best Southern Gospel, Country Gospel or Bluegrass Gospel Album at the 37th Grammy Awards.
