The Delmore Brothers' Fifty Miles to Travel: The King and DeLuxe Acetate Series, released on Ace Records (CDCHD 1074) in 2005, is a twenty-four-track compilation drawn from pre-tape acetate recordings Alton and Rabon Delmore made for King Records and the King subsidiary DeLuxe in the late 1940s. Alton plays six-string guitar and sings lead; Rabon, four-string tenor guitar and harmony—the duo's signature combination, Rabon's single-string melodic leads arcing over Alton's harmonically sophisticated chords. The acetate sources sit closer to the original signal chain than the issued 78 rpm releases. Grand Ole Opry stars from the early 1930s, the Delmores were among the most influential guitarist-vocalists in early country music; their King-era recordings are pivotal to country boogie and, by extension, rockabilly.
