Finding the Way (self-released, 1997) is the second album from the Witcher Brothers, a Southern California family bluegrass band founded in 1985 when Dennis Witcher began performing with his young son Gabe, who was six years old at the time. Michael Witcher joined on dobro as the project matured. The album is gospel-heavy, built around hymns, sacred standards, and devotional originals performed in the acoustic family-bluegrass tradition. Gabe Witcher would go on to become the fiddle player for Punch Brothers alongside Chris Thile, but this 1997 recording captures him in his father's family ensemble, developing the technical fluency that would eventually carry him to national prominence. The Witcher Brothers recorded four albums over their two-plus decades on the Southwest bluegrass circuit, and Finding the Way is a mid-career document of a family ensemble committed equally to the tradition and the faith it expressed.
