Fly Through the Country, the second studio album by New Grass Revival, was released by Flying Fish in 1975 with the original lineup of Sam Bush on mandolin, John Cowan on bass, Curtis Burch on guitar, and Courtney Johnson on banjo, recorded at Clement Recorders in Nashville. The album showcased the band's distinctive approach — bluegrass instrumentation pushed into territory that touched rock, jazz, and contemporary folk songwriting. Bush and Stephen Brines wrote half the material; the title track and Chuck Cochran's electric piano on These Days announced openly how far New Grass was willing to take the form. The record helped define what "newgrass" would come to mean over the next decade.
