Folk Session Inside cover

Folk Session Inside, released by Mercury in 1963 (SR 60858), was the Country Gentlemen's major-label debut — their move from Folkways and small Washington-area labels to a national outlet — and captured the classic lineup of Charlie Waller on guitar and lead vocals, John Duffey on mandolin and tenor harmony, Eddie Adcock on banjo, and Tom Gray on bass, with Pete Kuykendall engineering at Wynwood Recording Studio. The program leaned into the band's progressive instincts, mixing traditional bluegrass and country with folk-revival material and contemporary songs the band reshaped to its own ends. It marked the moment urban concert audiences began to recognize the Country Gentlemen as something genuinely new in bluegrass.
