Freedom Ride, released on Compass Records (7 4337-2) on 9 April 2002, was the first solo album by mandolinist Drew Emmitt, a founding member of Leftover Salmon. Emmitt and John Cowan produced it, Garry West was executive producer, and Dave Sinko recorded and mixed it.

According to the Bluegrass Discography, the same six players appear throughout the eleven songs: Emmitt on mandolin, Peter Rowan and Randy Scruggs on guitar, Vassar Clements and Sam Bush on fiddle, and Cowan on bass. Emmitt sings lead on most of the songs with Cowan on harmony; Rowan takes the lead on “Rainmaker,” with Emmitt and Cowan on harmony. “Paving Eisenhower” has no vocals credited. The set includes the title song, “Bend in the River,” “If You’re Ever in Oklahoma,” “Tangled Up in Blue” and “Lonesome Road.”
