Goin’ Round This World cover

Goin’ Round This World (Rebel REB 1602) was released in 1981 and was Dave Evans’s first record for Rebel Records. Evans, born in 1950 and raised in Ohio, had formed his own band, River Bend, in 1978 and recorded for the Vetco label in Cincinnati before moving to Rebel; earlier he had sung tenor and played banjo with Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers in 1972–73. The album was recorded at Riverside Sound Studios in Ashland, Kentucky.

Evans plays banjo and sings lead. On most of the twelve tracks the band is Clancy Fields on guitar, Larry Johnson on mandolin, Tommy Cordell on fiddle and Kevin Williamson on bass; on “You’ll Never Walk the Streets of Gold” and “One Loaf of Bread” the guitar is Landon Messer, the mandolin Lundy Fields and the bass Mike Smith. Evans wrote four of the songs: those two, “Only One Was True” and “Be Proud of the Gray in Your Hair.” The rest range from Woody Guthrie’s “Pastures of Plenty” and Bill Monroe’s “Road to Columbus” to “Shenandoah Waltz,” “Somebody Loves You Darling,” “She Thinks I Still Care” and the traditional “The Drunkard’s Dream.”
