Good 'n Country, Jimmy Martin's 1960 Decca release, captured the classic Sunny Mountain Boys lineup of J.D. Crowe on banjo and Paul Williams on mandolin — one of the most influential band configurations of bluegrass's second wave. The album drew on Martin's biggest songs of the period, including You Don't Know My Mind, Hold Whatcha Got, and Grand Ole Opry Song, performed in his characteristically tight, on-the-beat style — what Martin himself called "good 'n country," a commercially polished bluegrass with simple harmonies, catchy melodies, and the propulsive rhythm guitar that became his trademark. For a young Crowe, the discipline these sessions demanded shaped the playing he would carry into his own bandleader career.
