Hall of Fame Bluegrass! pairs the singer and guitarist Junior Sisk with the banjo player Joe Mullins on songs that Rebel Records describes as a tribute to members of the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Hall of Fame. Rebel released it on 22 October 2013 (REB-CD 1854). Sisk, born in Arlington and raised in Ferrum, Virginia, leads Ramblers Choice; Mullins, from Xenia, Ohio, leads the Radio Ramblers and is a radio broadcaster.
It was recorded and mixed by Wes Easter at Eastwood Studio in Cana, Virginia, on 12 to 15 May 2013, with additional recording at Oscar Fish Studio in Brookville, Ohio, and was produced by Mullins and Sisk. The band is Sisk on guitar, Mullins on banjo, Jesse Brock on mandolin, Jason Carter on fiddle, Dudley Connell on guitar and Marshall Wilborn on bass, with Rob Ickes on dobro on three tracks and, on some songs, Mike Terry singing baritone and Billy Hawks bass. Sisk sings lead on most of the thirteen songs and Mullins sings the tenor part; Mullins leads “I’ll Be There, Mary Dear,” “I’m So Happy” and “Don’t Let My Love Get in the Way.” The writers credited include Mac Wiseman (“The Bluebirds Are Singing for Me”), Jimmy Martin and Pete Goble (“I’ll Drink No More Wine”), Don Reno (“I’m So Happy”), Del McCoury (“Don’t Let My Love Get in the Way”), Jim and Jesse McReynolds (“They Can’t Love Jesus More Than Me”) and A. P. Carter (“Single Girl, Married Girl”).
