Junior Sisk
Junior Sisk is a Virginia-born guitarist and lead singer whose Stanley Brothers-influenced phrasing and steady stream of IBMA-winning records with Ramblers Choice and the Junior Sisk Band have made him one of the most decorated traditional bluegrass voices of his generation.
- Full name Harry Carpenter "Junior" Sisk Jr.; born November 6, 1964 in Arlington, Virginia; raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains around Ferrum, Virginia.
- Founded Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice in 1998; reformed the band in 2007 after stints with Wyatt Rice & Santa Cruz, Lost & Found, and BlueRidge.
- Heavily influenced by the Stanley Brothers; widely regarded as a leading voice of traditional bluegrass.
- Wrote early-1990s Lonesome River Band hits including "A Game (I Can't Win)," "My Heart Belongs to You," and "Tears Are Blinding Me."
- Co-wrote "A Far Cry from Lester and Earl," winner of 2012 IBMA Song of the Year; the album "Heart of a Song" won 2012 IBMA Album of the Year.
- Named 2013 IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year.
- Won SPBGMA Bluegrass Band of the Year (2014) and 2016 IBMA Recorded Event of the Year for "Longneck Blues" with Ronnie Bowman.
- Plays a 1975 Martin D-35 nicknamed "Sally"; later albums on Mountain Fever Records include "Load the Wagon" (2020 IBMA Album of the Year).
