The Mountains Are Calling Me Home (Mountain Fever Records MFR 170324) was released on 24 March 2017 by Junior Sisk & Rambler’s Choice. It is the band’s second album on Mountain Fever, after Poor Boy’s Pleasure (2016). Sisk sings lead, with Jason Davis on banjo, Jamie Harper on fiddle, Jonathan Dillon on mandolin and Kameron Keller on bass, the last three also singing. Aaron Ramsey plays guitar, produced the album and engineered, mixed and mastered it, with Mark Hodges as executive producer. Dudley Connell wrote the liner notes.
There are eleven tracks. Bluegrass Today reported that the songs come from writers including Daniel Salyer, Wayne Winkle, Tim Stafford and Ronnie Bowman, with a couple of Jimmy Martin songs in the mix. The title song was written by J.R. Satterwhite Jr., and “It’s So Cold” is a Wayne Winkle song that Sisk had recorded earlier with BlueRidge, in 1999. In the early 1990s the Lonesome River Band recorded several of Sisk’s songs, among them “A Game (I Can’t Win)” and “Tears Are Blinding Me.”
