Hell Broke Loose is a set of old-time fiddle tunes and songs by fiddler Natalie Padilla with Casey Campbell and Tyler Andal, recorded in Nashville and released on February 17, 2023. Padilla plays fiddle and guitar and sings, Campbell plays mandolin and sings harmony, and Andal plays guitar, bass, fiddle and banjo. Andal also engineered the album and mixed it with Kurt Storey, who mastered it.

Seventeen of the twenty tracks are traditional, among them “Hell Broke Loose in Georgia,” “Farewell Princeton,” “Cumberland Gap,” “Billy in the Lowground,” “Soldier’s Joy,” “Katy Hill” and the song “Say Darling Say.” The other three are Padilla’s own: “Charles the Fifth,” “Midwinter Waltz” and “Horse & Buggy.”

Padilla grew up in a musical family in Montana and lived in Colorado for more than a decade. There she was a founding member of the acoustic band Masontown, and she later played with the Vermont band Low Lily. She is now based in western Massachusetts. Her other recordings include Paths and Places (2017), Fireweed (2019) and Montana Wildflower, made with Quinn Bachand in the same year as this album.
