Highway Fifty Two (Vetco Records LP 3033) is a studio album from Dave Evans, the Ohio-area guitarist and vocalist who built a regional following in the Midwest bluegrass scene through festival performances and independent recordings on the Cincinnati-based Vetco label, presenting traditional bluegrass material in the direct acoustic ensemble format that characterized the regional performing circuit. Evans plays guitar and sings; Art Wydner contributes instrumental work; Danny Cade plays mandolin; and Mike Hamilton holds the bass. Vetco Records, which documented the Ohio-region bluegrass scene across multiple decades, provided Evans with a recording context suited to the regional traditional sound he performed — a presentation of the Kentucky hard-driving style carried north into the Ohio Valley communities that had adopted and sustained bluegrass as one of the region's most enduring musical forms.
