Idle Time (Rounder Records 0232, 1987) is a studio album from the Nashville Bluegrass Band, the Tennessee ensemble that combined the traditional bluegrass aesthetic with a sophisticated vocal approach rooted in the a cappella Sacred Harp tradition. Pat Enright plays guitar and sings lead; Alan O'Bryant plays banjo and sings; Mike Compton plays mandolin and sings; Stuart Duncan plays fiddle; and Mark Hembree holds the bass. The Nashville Bluegrass Band's approach — rigorous ensemble discipline applied to traditional material — established them as one of the central acts in the 1980s traditional bluegrass revival, and their five-part vocal harmony, particularly the Sacred Harp-influenced a cappella numbers alongside instrumental bluegrass, set them apart from their contemporaries and earned them a dedicated following on both the festival and concert circuits.
