The Gibson Brothers' Iron and Diamonds, released on Sugar Hill Records (SUG-CD 4039) in 2008, is the New York duo's seventh studio album and a showcase of increasingly sophisticated original songwriting—eight of twelve tracks are Gibson compositions. Eric Gibson plays banjo and sings; Leigh Gibson, guitar and vocals; Rick Hayes, mandolin—a picker who also builds Hayes-brand instruments; Clayton Campbell, fiddle; Mike Barber, bass. Note: catalog personnel also lists Evan McGregor and John Morris; these appear to be production credits rather than performing musicians. The Bluegrass Special praised Hayes's mandolin work as a particular highlight, and the record continued the strong critical trajectory the brothers had built through their Sugar Hill years in the period immediately before their Compass Records move.
