Eric Gibson is a New York-born banjoist and lead vocalist who, with brother Leigh on guitar, leads The Gibson Brothers — the IBMA Entertainer of the Year (2012, 2013) and multi-time Vocal Group of the Year winners whose tight Yankee-bred brother-duets have set a contemporary bluegrass standard.
- Older of the two Gibson Brothers, born in 1970; about eleven months older than brother Leigh (b. October 1971).
- Plays 5-string banjo and shares lead/harmony vocals in The Gibson Brothers, the bluegrass band he and Leigh formed in 1991.
- Grew up on a 650-acre dairy farm in Ellenburg Depot, NY, in the Champlain Valley near the Canadian border.
- Earned an English degree from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1993; worked as a schoolteacher before going full-time with the band.
- With Leigh, won the 1998 IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year, then took IBMA Entertainer of the Year in 2012 and 2013, plus multiple Vocal Group, Song, Album, and Gospel Recorded Performance honors.
- Plays a Deering Tenbrooks Legacy banjo and is a Deering endorsing artist.
- In 2015 Eric and Leigh received honorary doctorates from SUNY Plattsburgh.
- Has recorded for Sugar Hill, Compass, and Rounder Records.
