Long Forgotten Dream

The Gibson Brothers

Album · 1996 · Hay Holler HH-CD 1201

Long Forgotten Dream (Hay Holler HH-CD 1201) is an early recording from the Gibson Brothers — Eric Gibson and Leigh Gibson, the sibling duo from western upstate New York who would eventually become one of traditional bluegrass's most decorated vocal acts. Junior Barber and Mike Barber complete the ensemble. The Hay Holler label, associated with the Washington, D.C.–area bluegrass scene, provided an early platform for the brothers at a time when their national profile was still developing. The Gibsons' close, interlocking harmonies and their shared affinity for traditional country and bluegrass vocal styles were already evident on this early release, suggesting the direction that would carry them to multiple IBMA awards, a Rounder Records deal, and recognition as heirs to the close-harmony sibling tradition that runs from the Louvin Brothers through Appalachian country music.
