Jimmy Martin's Best Bluegrass Hits, issued in 1978, is one of the MCA-era compilations that kept Martin's Decca catalog circulating after his commercial peak — a single-LP selection of his most-played material from the long Decca-MCA run, including Widow Maker, Hold Whatcha Got, Sunny Side of the Mountain, and the inevitable Grand Ole Opry Song. The track choices overlap heavily with sibling compilations of the period; budget-line reissue logic of the late 1970s favored multiple light repackagings of the same well-known material. Whatever the catalog politics, the selections preserve the hard-driving rhythm guitar, confident lead, and tight Sunny Mountain Boys ensemble that defined Martin at his commercial best.
