Jimmy Martin's Greatest Bluegrass Hits, released by MCA in 1978, is a single-LP compilation drawn from Martin's long Decca-MCA run — the sixteen years that produced Widow Maker, Hold Whatcha Got, Sunny Side of the Mountain, Ocean of Diamonds, You Don't Know My Mind, and the Grand Ole Opry Song that became Martin's signature. The selections trace the working trajectory of Martin's Sunny Mountain Boys through the 1960s and into the early 1970s, from J.D. Crowe's tenure on banjo through the parade of younger pickers who passed through the band over the years. Compilations like this kept Martin's catalog in print well past his commercial peak, and the LP remains a serviceable single-disc summary of his major-label work.
